Solar FAQ's

Does it really work?
Yes. Our panels are specifically designed to operate in our climate. Special coatings absorb solar energy from diffused as well as direct sunlight meaning you will see a heat gain even on cloudy days.

How hot will my water get?
For safety reasons your water will be heated to a maximum of 65 degrees centigrade. This is regulated by the solar controller.

How many panels will I need and how big are they?
It depends on your particular requirements. However an average installation will require 2 panels. The overall surface area of two panels is 4.6m2.

Will my roof take the extra weight?
Our panels are very light (only 40Kg) and secured on a specially designed bracket.

Do I need to change my boiler?
No. But you will need to retain it to top up the solar system over the winter months and of course to heat your radiators.

Will I need a bigger hot water cylinder?
Where space is available it is better to install a bigger cylinder, up to 250 litres, to optimise the solar energy gains. This also allows more hot water to be stored for greater efficiency. For more information see our Solar Cylinders page.

Do I need planning permission for the panels?
Generaly solar panels will not require any planning permission. However it is advisable that you check with your local authority before any work begins.

Can I take the system with me if I move?
Yes. If you move house within 12 months of installation we will re-install your system at your new home.

How long will the system last.
With very minimal maintenance you can expect to get 30+ years of service from your solar system.

Do I need to clean the panels?
No. The panels are specially coated and are self cleaning.

Does this kind of solar system heat my radiators?
No. Only the hot water as this is a constant requirement throughout the year.

How much will it cost?
Each installation is individual to every home dependent on requirements. We will survey your property and assess your needs to give you an honest price.
